Almost Tax Day!

Well, the taxes are done. I'd hoped that we'd get a HUGE refund because of the shit ton of money we spent on IVF last year. But....alas we get a bit of a refund but not at all what I expected. So be it. We used a CPA this year to make sure we'd get everything that was available. It's ok. Really....it's ok. Yes. I mean it. I mean it, I mean it, I mean it. All is as it should be....for now.

Maybe next year we'll have a deduction or two.

The mister and I had a mini-vacay down south on the coast last weekend. We met up with our friends and former neighbors on Saturday. We got to know them better and had a good time chatting and eating a yummy dinner.

I ordered the new South Beach diet book today. Now that Easter is over and birthdays, we can start hard and heavy. Well, it's not that we're obese or anything....don't get me wrong. But we can stand to lose a few pounds. The Mister is on board. At least in theory. I hope he feels the same after two weeks on the no-shit, you're really getting healthy, part of this adventure. I can't wait to get the books on Friday and head to Publix for groceries. *bounces*

In preparation of new lifestyle we picked up flax at Costco. The Mister has always enjoyed wheat germ in his milk or sprinkled in cereal or ice cream. This time we found flax to use in the same way.

I highly recommend giving it a shot. It's from Flax USA and organic. Sprinkled in and on food, it's yummy. Really no flavor, mild...almost like graham cracker crumbs. I'm not sure how smart it is to sprinkle on a scoop of vanilla ice cream (
Cost.co with no growth hormones!) but it's yummy!

The ice cream from the birthday party better get 'et fast. The book is coming! The book is coming!

We're Still here... alive and kickin'

Hi All!

I can't believe it's been weeks since I posted. Moving is a pain in the ass...and the lower back. We've gotten it done and we're almost UNpacked which is huge.

Well my bloggity friends....we've settled in nicely. Our house is a little smaller but so much closer to Syd and the Mister's work. It's a five minute commute for each! The kitchen is a little smaller but with my mad organizational skilz most everything is where it needs to be.

The one thing I miss is our "junk" drawer. To solve this problem I found stackable drawers and put them above the washer/dryer on the shelves.
I had to find places for batteries, tea-lite candles, hot glue gun, etc. These were a saving grace and found at Big.Lots!

This past weekend we celebrated an 8th birthday for our sweet little Syd. She had 5 friends...yes FIVE friends spent the night, had a birthday party and then the next morning we had breakfast with the Easter bunny at the zoo. The Mister and I were exhausted but the girls had so much fun!

We had corn dogs, fruit salad, vegetables (yup, they ate them), baked french fries, red velvet cake (Syd's request from Costco) and ice cream. They all had fun running in the backyard, playing on the trampoline, having an Easter egg hunt and then dancing and acting like maniacs up in Syd's bedroom.

Her party favors were Spring tin pails from Target $1 isle, filled with "smelly" pens, little spiral note pads, flower shaped erasers, plastic jeweled rings and a magnifying glass. The magnifying glasses were left over from last years party when we did a movie under the stars. We watched "Honey I Shrunk the Kids"...remember the dad in that contraption hanging over the lawn with a magnifying glass? Anyway, I forgot to give them out last year.

Can I just say that magnifying glasses from the dollar store were a big hit! Probably wouldn't have been last year...so it all works out.

Nothing else new here. I'll be posting regularly. 'Er...I'll try to post regularly. Spring has sprung and we're enjoying the outdoors before the humidity rises and the mosquitoes the size of volkswagens start biting.

Peace.

Packing....packing....packing....

I hate it. REALLY, I do not like to pack. I suppose no one really does...do they? Ack. It takes so long and you have to think about everything way in advance because if you don't you're going to pack your underwear and have none set aside for the days before the move actually happens.

I have been doing pretty well with planning ahead and organizing. The only thing I had to open were two small boxes. I packed up my spices, except for the basics, and all the flour, baking soda, etc. But until I got a call Thursday night, I had forgotten that I'd signed up for the chili-cook-off at Unity this Sunday. Thank goodness they called because I totally forgot. I had to dig into the spice box for the chili powder and find the cocoa powder in the flour box. Found 'em. Now the chili is simmering getting ready for tomorrow morning.

Back to packing this evening. Yuck. My kingdom for the ability to pay someone to pack for me some day. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. I have to finish the bathroom and bedroom tomorrow. The Mister has to pack his clothes and shoes. Then I pack the rest of the kitchen and get ready to use paper plates, cups and plastic silverware. The last thing on the list is the kitchen items not done yet and the pantry. We'll get it done.

There is a silver lining. Moving makes you re-think all the crap you have. We took a HuGE batch of stuff to the Salvation Army today. I had to kiss my size 2 pants goodbye. Over 40 and full of whoremoans....won't see that size for a loooong time, if ever.

Speaking of which, the Mister and I are going to do the South Beach diet after we move. We both have to lose a bit of weight gained the last few months. He's all for it, thank goodness. I'll let you know how it goes. ;-)
