We're home now and glad to be back....it was a whirlwind tour. My girlfriend described it as "drive-thru" embryo pick-up. Heh.
We got home late last night, which means early this morning. I was able to sleep on the plane so that was great. OK, OK....I'll stop yammering and give the deets.
We arrived on time after my pre-transfer acu treatment. We waited for about an hour in the waiting room. They took mercy on me after seeing me with my head in my hands and let me empty my bladder by filling up two of those pee cups. ahhh....felt so good. Then off we went to the RE's office for our chat.
Both Blastocysts survived the thaw! We were so please to hear that. RE said they looked good; one was 80% expanded and the other was 100%. He was very happy about that. They also did assisted hatching...for those of you unfamiliar, it's a very delicate procedure where they place a mild acid on the outside of the cell wall to help the little guys hatch.
I took my Valium (felt nothing btw) and we headed back down the hall to the transfer room. On my way, I asked about the heparin. He said I could go on it if I really wanted to but he didn't think it was necessary. Then he started talking about all the research he had been a part of that just didn't support the use under similar circumstances. I love that he would let me do it if I wanted to. I'm mulling it over but will likely stick with the aspirin and a healthy dose of folic acid. If we get twins again, I'll re-visit it for sure after a chat with a Perinatologist.
OK, back to the transfer. The girl gets me situated, does the u/s and says my bladder isn't quite full but she would go show the doc the pic. Just so y'all know, it was full...my bladder is the size of a plum. Next thing we know...in he comes apparently it was good enough. Whew. THIS time I knew just where to look while he was doing his thing...inserting the catheter, etc. Last time I stared at my bladder, not knowing it was my bladder, and missed the whole damn thing. THIS time I saw the little guys go in. Took my breath away. Magical. I cried. No matter what, I'm so grateful for these opportunities. I told God that too.
The RE patted my tummy and said, "they're home now, where they belong." I thanked them. They left. The Mister stood up, kissed my belly and said hello to them. It was a great transfer. No doubt, if little souls can watch, they know they are wanted and loved.
Then the laughing started....I had to pee. The girl said she'd be back in a "few minutes". After 30 minutes I started to get jittery because it was HURTING. The Mister got right up and went in search of the young woman to help me. He left the door cracked ... I see him look left, look right....walk left, walk right...peeks in at me with this funny look. I send him right to the corner office where I know the coordinator sits. Pay dirt! The pan is coming! Woohoo! Folks, if you've ever had to drink 2 bottles of water in 1 hour and then hold it, you'll totally relate to the PRESSURE! I probably posted this last time because I never thought I could do it but seriously it's heaven to pee in that damn thing! I get situated, the girl leaves to give me privacy, I almost can't hold it until she walks out! Ahhhh...so good. Heaven. The Mister goes to the end of the table and lifts up the drape because he thinks it would be funny to see me do this.....HA! He couldn't see a thing! Creep.
But that was the beginning of the laughter. Went for my acu treatment and the doc was funny. Even funnier was that we got to yakking and she forgot the needles in my ear. Wups! Then home we went to my folks and I laid on the couch. We watched Julie & Julia for the second time. Laughed some more. Good day. Very good day.
PS- I just want to advise that no one should have a roast beef sandwich and coleslaw after transfer. The coleslaw gives you gas...at the bottom end. Then you lay there wondering if you can, as my husband so elequently put it, "Fart the babies out"? No coleslaw.
We're home now. I'm talking to them all the time. Hoping. Praying. Loving. Laughing.
