Evil....Evil Candy Corn Goodness and a Polyp?

Candy corn is not my favorite. I enjoy a little dab around this time of year. They are cute and they remind me of the season. But now I feel addicted to the darn things... their little orange butts with the white pointy tips.... here's why.

We went to a friends house after a birthday party for her daughter. They decided to open presents there instead of at the gymnastics place where the party was held (fun btw for the 8 yr olds). This dear friend has a great mother-in-law who brings left over treats from having guests at her house. You know the drill, get the treats out of the house so she doesn't eat them all. So in she comes with delicious pumpkin chocolate chip bread, lemon cookies and bag full of candy corn and Spanish peanuts.

Hmmm. I thought to myself, what could a bag full of candy corn and peanuts be about? Interesting.

WELL LET ME TELL YOU! She shared the secret. And a delicious secret it is. Place 2 candy corns and 5 Spanish peanuts in your mouth, at the same time and chew. Tastes like a Pay.Day candy bar. Pfffttt I think to myself. Wrong. I was wrong. It tastes just like it! Holy yummy folks.

Go out tomorrow and buy candy corn and Spanish peanuts. You must try it. It's heaven. I allow myself 10 candy corn and nuts a night. How pathetic am I? Heh.

Lots of interesting news happening on the uterus front. Looks like I might have a polyp. Will keep you posted. Doesn't mean that's why we've had losses but it also might be the explanation. So, it gives us hope. We take hope any where we can get it.

Peace.

More of My Favorite Things

Quinoa- This yummy grain is my new favorite side dish. The Mister enjoys it much more than couscous. This is OK because I'm trying to reduce my gluten intake. You never know, it just might help with "things". Here's my favorite recipe (so far) for quinoa:
In a sauce pan:
1/2 c. onion chopped
1/2- 3/4 c. carrot chopped

Saute in some olive oil until beginning to soften.

Add:
1/2 c. dried cranberries
2 C. water
1 C. quinoa (rinsed in sieve)
2 t. +/- chicken bouillon
1 bay leaf
Stir together, reduce heat to simmer. Cover, simmer 20-ish minutes until done, removing bay leaf before serving.

Yum! This is a combo recipe from the back of the bag of organic quinoa I bought at Cost.co (see pic above). One recipe said to add a cinnamon stick, which I did once. But Bay Leaf and Cinnamon didn't flip my switches. So I leave the cinnamon out now. You can try it and see if you like it. What the heck, right? I've also forgotten the bay leaf and it was good too, different than with the leaf but good as well.
Quinoa is rich in amino acids and tastes delicious!!!

Next favorite thing: (who am I Opra.h?)

The Spray N Wash stain stick. I've had this darn thing for years. No, really, years. My bff recommended it to me and I've really only started using it. I LOVE it. It works great. I keep it in my closet where the laundry baskets are so I can use it on my clothes. I always have drips and stains, don't even ask me why....I miss my mouth all the time. So I keep this handy and rub some on my stain and throw it into the bins. This way if the Mister does the laundry, I don't have to nag him about making sure to pre-treat stains. I've already done it. Win-Win, yes? Yes. I get the laundry done, the stains are gone and the Mister can help with no nagging. Win-Win. It lasts forever. Also I found some blood stains on the sheets my recent house guest slept in. Nothing major, looked like shaving nicks that got on the pillow case. It was dry. So, I brought out my trusty stain stick, rubbed it on and left it on the floor in a pile waiting for it's turn in the washer. Probably only sat an hour or so but with no other "manipulating" the stain was gone. Gone. GONE I tell you!
I love it. Have I said that yet? LOVE it. Along with my quinoa. Not together of course. Love them both. Yummy. In different ways....but yummy. Delightful.
I hope you try them both.
Tonight I made chicken corn chowder. It's fall here now. Finally. Nothing better than warm soup. Soup is another one of my favorite things.

I'm Busy in My Mind....

I heard this from the Mister today. I spent the morning out running around. The Mister was not in the mood to hit a few garage sales and the farmer's market. Can't blame him. He's a guy. So I spent a few hours out and about, bought some sweet potatoes and found 4...yes 4.... garage sales with jack-diddly in the way of books. That's what I was searching for...books. I don't enjoy paying full price and scored some really good ones at a local garage sale in May. Nada today.

So I come home later to eat some lunch and see if the Mister is ready to go maybe hit a few used books stores and the only thrift store in a 17 mile radius. He's willing to keep me company but not exuberant about it. So...I ask him if he's "ok"? And I hear, "Yes Honey, I'm just busy in my mind."

Wait. What??????

I burst out laughing and so did he. He's not even sure what he meant by that. But it cracked us up in all it's ridiculousness (is that a word?).

I'm busy in my mind. I'm going to have to remember that one. "Honey you want to have sex?" "Later. I'm busy in my mind." "You ready for the gym?" "Not yet. I'm busy in my mind."

So I leave him and his mind. I decide a half-day of shopping by myself would be good. I could do what I wanted for as long I felt like it and there wouldn't be anyone to notice. Good day. Before I leave I Goo.gle used books and find what I consider a not so reliable list. I decide to dust off the yellow pages and look there instead. Folks around these parts write checks at the store and still use phone books.

Score! I find 6 listed and two are a few miles away. Yahoo! I head out to the first one. It's a 1/2 mile up the road. But alas....there's not a used book store in the shopping center. I pull over. Call the number. Disconnected. Hmmm. OK. I better call the next one. "notarealbookstore.com we're open M-F from 8-5." Harumph. No bueno. Call the next one and delightful older woman answers. She frankly sounded too perky to be working in a used bookstore. So I dare to ask the question, "Hello. Are you a used bookstore?" "No we are not." kinda snooty. Me, "Terribly sorry I found you listed in the Yellow Pages under Used Bookstores". Madame Snooty, "Yes we know. It's a mistake." WELL. I put the last address in the Nav and take a look at how far away it is. The first leg of the trip says 19 miles down local Highway somethingerother. There goes that. Not one used bookstore in my vicinity. I'm in a fairly big city. Apparently no one in this "big" city wants used books? Maybe they don't read. Yeah. I think that's it. One thrift store, no used bookstores. Just a bunch of people who don't need to save money I guess. Or used books are "beneath" them? Farg if I know. Frustrating to say the least.

BUT we have one thrift store. The Army is my saving grace. The selection of books is tiny but I found 4 for 99 cents each. That made me happy. I'm no longer out of reading material. I have 2 Agatha Christie books that look interesting which will be fun.

One thrift store in the area. 4 garage sales in a 30 mile radius. Are people pack rats? Or it's not garage sale season? I've still got a lot to learn about living here. I need to let it go. :-)

What I do know is Fall is about to arrive. I'm so excited for cool weather and the changing leaves. This is one of my favorite times. So beautiful.

Happy Saturday.
